American Pixels
I really like these images from a series called American Pixels by Jörg M Colberg that use JPEG compression algorithms to create unusual artworks.

Nadav Kander
To be honest I hadn’t heard of Nadav Kander before D&AD’s New Blood announcement, but I really love his work. See more on his website.

(I’m aware that this is the second David Lynch photo on this blog; I’m not obsessed or anything.)

Vicki DaSilva, light graffiti

Just found a post about Vicki DaSilva over at Environmental Graffiti. Using long exposure photography, she creates these ephemeral images from locations throughout the US, and has done since 1980.

The Sexy People blog
Sexy People is a blog dedicated to the ‘celebration of the perfect portrait’ and is a brilliant curated collection of cringe-worthy/terrifying/hilarious photos taken from the 60s-90s. I only just discovered that the photos are carefully categorised by country, backdrop, styling (e.g. mullet, glamour, bow tie...), etc.
Go straight to Renzo’s favourites for a choice collection.

Peter Funch, thematically composited photos of New Yorkers
Just came across the superb work of Peter Funch, who takes photos from exactly the same viewpoint in New York over a 2 week period, and then composites the results according to various themes, such as yawning - above - yellow envelopes, and walking dogs.

Martin Parr, recent work

Machu Picchu
Magnum photographer Martin Parr is one of my favourite photographers, and I noticed he posted up some fairly recent work on his website, such as the rediculous images from the very silly, Idex Arms Fair which took place recently in UAE. A bigger portfolio can be found at Magnum, and you can get his book through Amazon, which is a wry look at British tradition and nostalgia.

Mari Stølan, A Lot of Pixel

I have been enjoying the blog of Norwegian design student Mari Stølan, based in London, who seems to collect the most random images from around the web. Like a mini-Ffffound.

Matt Stuart, photography

The pretty interesting Wieden+Kennedy London blog reminded me about Matt Stuart; a photographer whose eye captures the most opportune street scenes.

Matt talks about his approach on the about page of his website, “I am reliant on a small Leica camera, patience and lots of optimism. But what I get in return is the chance to make an honest picture which people know immediately is a genuine moment and which hopefully burrows deep into their memories.”
