Rob Ryan at the Museum of Arts and Design

When I was in New York recently I visited the Museum of Arts and Design and was thrilled to see two pieces by the illustrator, Rob Ryan in Slash, an exhibition of art using paper as its principal medium. I first came across Rob's work via If You Could.

Onedotzero screening at Wieden+Kennedy, London

Last night I went to see a Onedotzero screening at Wieden+Kennedy whose theme was 'Craftwork': an acknowledgement of the movement towards craft in moving image, followed up by Hi5's astonishing short, Logorama. Read on for some of the highlights...

Giedre Domzaite, new showreel…

YCN represents the incredibly talented illustrator (and animator), Giedre Domzaite. Johanna showed me her new showreel yesterday and was amazed...

Elliot Burford, illustrating spam

Just found these funny illustrations by Elliot Burford, illustrating spam subjects. Tonnes of people do this, but I think this are nice and simple.

Yann Brien, Handwash Studio

French illustrator Yann Brien just popped by to show some of his new work and left us with one of these really nice screen-printed calendars!

Firekites video, by Lucinda Schreiber and Yanni Kronenberg

From Lucinda Schreiber, "We shot roughly 1900 frames... the frame rate varies between 12fps, 8fps and 6fps throughout."

Yulia Brodskaya; paper illustration

Russian illustrator and designer Yulia Brodskaya’s paper work seems to be everywhere right now, particularly via her work which has appeared a in The Guardian a great deal.

Julien Vallée, motion artist from Montreal

Yes yes, I know I’m the last person on the internet to post something about Julien Vallée but I just re-visited his YCN profile for the first time in ages and was once again blown away by his stuff even though I’ve seen it all before.

And look at his non-motion stuff…

Visit his website for more incredible work.

Really nice illustration and design by Si Scott.

HelloVon

image

I have two prints by HelloVon, one from the man himself and the other from his collaboration with If You Could. I’m really into his style, which can range from realistic (as per his bird illustrations, brilliantly displayed in his recent Migration series, pictured above) to stylistic portraiture, like this brilliant image of Thom York.

His website hints at something new to come: I’m really looking forward to it. You can also follow him on his blog.

Bryan Dalton, Mistake the Beautiful

image

I first came across Bryan’s work when he set up his YCN profile ages ago, featuring some pretty mental but brilliantly photographed assemblages of unusual found objects. The Portland, OR based illustrator’s personal portfolio site, Mistake the Beautiful, revels more of his work, and is also responsible for Rainbow Dropshadow (his commercial arm, as far as I can tell) and the awesome, Sweet GIFs.

Very recently, Rainbow Dropshadow created a nice video for It’s Nice That, which was shown one the very large horizontal screen in London’s Piccadilly Circus.

Craig Ward, Words are Pictures

image

I first became aware of Craig’s typography work when YCN helped Nike with the Art of Football project, and subsequently when some of his work appeared in the latest Book. He’s recently updated his website - Words are Pictures - with some new work.

Incidentally he is also this week’s guest poster at the brilliant, It’s Nice That.
